Rust PvE vs PvP: which Haven Collective Rust server suits you?

Haven Collective runs three Rust servers: a 2x PvP server and a PvE server on PC, plus Haven 2x on PS5 and Xbox. They share one admin team, one Discord and one set of rules, but they feel very different to play. Picking the right one for how you like to play, and how much time you have, makes a big difference to how much you enjoy a wipe.

This guide compares them honestly, including the downsides, so you can choose.

Rust 2x PvP: fight, build, raid, repeat

Haven Rust PvP is Rust as most people know it, sped up. Gather and stacks are doubled, smelting and crafting are quick, and blueprints are shared across your team. Most groups are in a stone base within the first hour and raiding the same night.

What it is like

  • Every encounter matters. Anyone you meet could be friendly, or could be after your kit.
  • Your base can be raided. Logging off means trusting your walls, your doors and your honeycomb.
  • Weekly wipes. Every Thursday at 7pm UK time the map resets, so a bad week never costs you for long.
  • Quads maximum, no allies. Nobody gets rolled on the first night by a fifteen-man. A good duo can still take a fight against a quad.
  • Leaderboards with prizes. Top Fragger and Top Hunter pay Points to the top three at the end of each wipe.

It suits you if

  • You enjoy combat, risk and the adrenaline of a raid, in either direction.
  • You can play regularly through the week, especially wipe night and the days after.
  • You have a small group, or you are happy to play solo against groups of up to four.

Think twice if

  • Losing a base you spent hours on would ruin your evening.
  • You can only play an hour or two a week. You will still have fun, but you will often be catching up.

Rust PvE: the map is the enemy

Haven Rust PvE keeps the 2x pace but turns player damage off. Nobody can kill you, raid you or wreck your base. The danger comes from the server instead: zombies that are worst at night, bosses, NPC-defended raidable bases and custom events.

What it is like

  • Your base is yours. Build big, build ambitious, decorate. Nobody is coming to blow it up.
  • A month per map. The server wipes on the first Thursday of the month, so you have weeks to finish a project.
  • Progression without pressure. You still climb the tech tree and work up to better weapons, but you use them on the map rather than on people.
  • Shared spaces. Raidable bases run first come, first served, and monuments and roads stay clear for everyone.

It suits you if

  • You love Rust's building, crafting and progression but not the raids.
  • You play a few evenings a week and want to pick up where you left off.
  • You want to play with friends who are new to Rust without them getting farmed on day one.
  • You enjoy PvE challenges such as clearing events and raidable bases as a team.

Think twice if

  • What you love about Rust is outplaying other people. PvE takes that away entirely.
  • You need constant tension to stay interested. PvE nights are dangerous, but in a different way.

Upkeep still applies on PvE. Keep your Tool Cupboard stocked, because even without raiders a base with no upkeep decays.

Rust Console: Haven 2x on PS5 and Xbox

Haven 2x on console brings the PvP server's idea to PlayStation and Xbox. It runs 2x gather, loot and stacks, with quads maximum and no allies, and it adds a few things that make the early game quicker: tier 1 blueprints from the start, instant recycling with extra recyclers (including one on Cargo Ship), fast nights and Bradley events.

It suits you if

  • You play on PS5 or Xbox, or want to play with friends across both consoles.
  • You want PvP with less grind than vanilla console Rust.
  • You like a two-week wipe, long enough to settle in and short enough to stay fresh.

Console Rust is a separate version of the game from PC Rust, so console and PC players cannot play on the same server. See our Rust Console beginner tips for more.

Common questions

Can I play more than one?

Yes. Plenty of players run PvE for a relaxed evening and jump on PvP for wipe night. Your website account and Points are the same across Haven, and the same rules apply everywhere.

I am completely new to Rust. Where should I start?

PvE is the gentlest way to learn: you can practise building, crafting and navigating the map without losing everything to another player. When you feel ready, PvP will feel much less overwhelming. If you would rather jump straight in, PvP's weekly wipes mean you are never far from a fresh start, and our new player guide covers your first night.

I have a group of five or more. What now?

Rust PvP and Rust Console are capped at four with no allies, and that rule is enforced on how you play, not on the team button. If your group is bigger, split into separate groups that genuinely play apart, or play together on PvE. Ask in Discord if you are unsure what is allowed there.

Which server has the best ping?

Rust PvP and Haven 2x on console are both hosted in the UK, so players in the UK and the rest of Europe get the best connection. Each game page shows the live status and player count before you join.

Still deciding?

Pop into our Discord and pick the games you play when you join. Each server has its own chat, so you can ask current players what a typical wipe is like. When you are ready, our guide on how to join every Haven server gets you in.
