Rust PvE beginner guide
Haven Collective's Rust PvE server keeps the 2x pace of our PvP server but takes other players out of the fight. Nobody can raid you, kill you or wreck your base. The threat is the map itself: zombies, bosses, raidable bases and custom events. This guide covers how to join, what is different from vanilla Rust, and how to get going on a fresh wipe.
Joining the server
Open Rust, press F1 to bring up the console and type client.connect pve.havencollective.co.uk:25572, then press Enter. Once you are in, add it to your favourites from the server browser so it is there next time. The Rust PvE page shows whether the server is online, how many people are playing and the date of the next wipe.
How it differs from vanilla Rust
No PvP. Player damage is off. You cannot hurt other players, and they cannot hurt you, your base or your deployables.
2x gathering. Trees, nodes and barrels give twice the vanilla amount.
Faster crafting and smelting. Furnaces and crafting queues finish sooner, so you are kitted out quickly.
Short nights. Night still comes, but it does not last long.
Custom loot. Crates and barrels use a custom loot table rather than vanilla's.
Monthly wipes. The map and bases wipe on the first Thursday of the month at 7pm UK time, so a base lasts a full month rather than a week.
What you fight instead
Without other players to worry about, the danger comes from the server. Zombies roam the map and are worst at night. Bosses and custom events turn up across the map and give the best loot for anyone willing to take them on. Raidable bases are NPC-defended bases that spawn around the map for you to break into. They run first come, first served: if someone is already raiding one, find another.
Your first day on a fresh wipe
Gather wood and stone, craft a stone hatchet and pickaxe, and head away from the busiest roads and monuments to pick a building spot.
Build a small starter base and place a Tool Cupboard as soon as your first foundation is down. The Tool Cupboard stops anyone else building in your area and holds the materials that pay your upkeep.
Keep the Tool Cupboard stocked. Even without raiders, a base with no upkeep decays, and a month is a long time to leave one unattended.
Put a sleeping bag in your base so dying to a zombie horde does not mean a long walk back.
Once you have a gun and some meds, try a raidable base or a smaller event. They are the quickest way to good loot on this server.
The rules
PvE rules are short. Do not damage, trap or kill other players, their bases or their deployables. Raidable bases are first come, first served, and shared spaces such as monuments and roads stay clear for everyone. The rules for every Haven Collective server, including these, are on the rules page.
Getting help
Join our Discord and pick Rust PvE when it asks which games you play. That gives you the PvE chat for finding a crew and the PvE info channel for event pings and wipe news. For anything to do with your account, a lost base or a report about another player, open a support ticket.
